“What’s In a Name?”

I sat in a coffee shop

– table to myself –

prescribing meaning to the books I've read

"What's in a name?" she says to no one

I check the scansion – notate accordingly

Absurd, one calls it

– accordingly –

green faced with horns and raspy voice

"What's in a name?"
she winks at the audience

I observe the feet – see where they lead

Projections over memory – play

against our ideas of Saint Louis

"What's in a name?" shemuttersifonlytoherself

I play against the readings … acting the intent

"What's in a name?" I take time to develop

"Whatsinaname?" I throw away in lieu of pace

"W h a t ' s i n a n a m e ? " I whisper as to forget

"What's in a name?" I say

knowing he'll hear

Knowing, not responding

Listening, not upstaging

Acting with

not at

I take my time – and have my moment –

In the light
